I wasn’t going to write about it. I didn’t want to touch the Corona Virus subject. But there I was laying in bed, unable to sleep, and thoughts started running through my head. I’m beginning to learn that when thoughts begin to spew out clearly and easily, I should pay attention to them. Not because I’m super smart, or some fantastic writer, but because they tend to not be my own thoughts, but God’s prompting.

I first was praying, and talking to God about the matter. Which led my mind to start wondering a bit. My thought process was something like this:

1) God is this for real? This is CRAZY! This world has gone completely mad! I don’t even know what to think…

2) Lord, is this as serious as they are making it to be? Or are we just taking extra precautions….Or is the media being, well….the media…should I be more scared?

3) And God, what if…what if something BIGGER is going on, something bigger than this virus, that is completely out of our control? (I’ve come across quite a few conspiracy theories during my Facebook scrolling.) I’m talking beginning of WWIII, One World Government, trying to mess with the election, using this to force mandatory vaccination, purposely crashing the economy, elite power, blah blah blah….I can’t even go down that rabbit hole right now…

4) Lastly Lord, how is this going to effect us? Brad’s work? How is this going to effect others? The economy? Our country and the world…there are just so many layers of things to worry about.

I can understand how fear can begin to settle in. I’m still not certain why fear is making people completely panic and buy up all the toilet paper, and clear off every store shelf…but sometimes a wandering mind can let fear and anxiety creep in.

That’s when the thought entered my head…“What does the Bible have to say about fear?”
So I got out of bed, opened my Bible, and started reading and typing.
This is what I’ve gathered.

Psalm 34:4
I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.
Is our first reaction to seek the Lord? Or to turn to the news or social media to feed into the hype?

Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way, and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; He lifts His voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come see what the Lord has done, the desolations He has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; He burns the shields with fire. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
A theme I keep seeing in my person scripture reading is the constant reminder that God is with us! Let’s not forget that!

Pslam 23
The Lord is my shepard, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
A good reminder to turn to God for comfort, instead of social media for fear.

Psalm 27:1-3
The Lord is my light and my salvation–whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life–of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.
The more and more we read His Word, the more and more confident and fearless we become.

Psalm 37
Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your ways to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this; He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, and the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret–it only leads to evil. For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land. A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.
Fear is a liar – it is from Satan, not God!

Friends the world may seem a bit crazy right now. I don’t know what to make of it. I’m not trying to give answers (because I don’t have them), but my hope is that I can remind you, that when anxious feelings start to creep in, our first response should be to open up our Bibles and talk with God about it.

I may not be an expert on Corona Virus, but I am learning more and more about how to deal with feelings of fear and doom that may bring on anxiety. My best response to those feelings is to bring it to God, and let Him work it out. He will lift our burdens.
